We have babies! Two adorable little guinea pigs were born in the rescue on July 10. While they are super sweet, they were sadly born to a very young guinea pig that was removed by the OSPCA from a home in Amherstview a couple of months ago.
We took in 11 bunnies and 3 guinea pigs from that situation. We knew pregnancies were probable as many of the animals were housed together. Fortunately none of the bunnies were pregnant (they have short gestation periods of about 30 days), but sweet wee Lila, only a few months old herself, is now a momma.
Did you know that guinea pigs are fertile as of 4 weeks of age? This is why we always determine the babies’ sexes and separate the males and females by three weeks of age.
Thankfully all are healthy and doing well. These sweeties will be up for adoption in a few weeks. As best we can tell we have a sweet little boy and an adorable little girl.
